Alongside performing and more conventional publication in collections and magazines, Becci creates shorter bespoke collections of poems. She describes these as ‘poetry in pill form for an intellectual and emotional pick-me-up’. These collections are created entirely by the poet, including the cover design and book construction. They are sold at between £4-6 depending on cover design choice. When sold in person and at events, these come with a personalised poem to order.
This collection is a slightly unusual one. Rather than a collection of stand-alone poems, the pieces in ‘The Honest Gene’ is a science-fiction verse narrative based in a Dystopian future where Genetic Engineering determined the future of our young people. Fionne, a young woman whose Genetic ‘design’ is the cheapest and therefore the one with the least options. Dissatisfied with her lot, she breaks all social convention and befriends Art, a boy from a completely different background. Art has an unusual secret, and when he shares this secret with Fionne, it may well have the power to change her future forever.
The collection’s cover comes in a variety of colours and each is made to the specification of the buyer. You can find and purchase the collection here.
